ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME

Foundation Studies is better understood as a preparatory course to prepare you for the degree programme. Tertiary education will be a lot different from what you have been used to in school and Foundation Studies will help you to adapt yourself before you commit to pursuing a degree later on. While some of you may already know exactly what you want to pursue after leaving secondary school, others may still be weighing a few options that they should go for. In either case, you will find Foundation Studies at IUKL a good start.

Is this programme for me?

For school leavers who have already decided on what field to pursue and should you prefer a faster pathway to your degree, this 1 year intensive programme is the best route for you.

If you have yet to decide on what you want to do after you finish school, IUKL Foundation Studies is the best choice to keep your option open and gain entry into your Bachelor’s programmes. You will be equipped with the subject knowledge and skills you will need for your preferred degree programmes.

What should I expect?

IUKL Foundation in Arts is designed to keep the options open. The idea is to provide students a wider range of programmes to select at the Bachelor’s Degree level. The open option is important as many SPM and O-Level students can only decide after their foundation year.

What will I learn?

IUKL’s Foundation in Arts also provides students with two options, the Architecture Option and the Business, Information Technology and Language Studies Option. The common subjects are Academic English, Communication Essentials, Introduction to Computer System & Application, Introduction to Critical Thinking, Introduction to Multimedia, Introduction to Psychology, Introductory Mathematical Analysis, Personal Effectiveness, Presentation Skills and Professional Writing.

Architecture Option

Students wishing to pursue the architecture programmes, will be studying these elective subjects - Introduction to AutoCAD, Introduction to Built Environment, Introduction to Property & Construction, Drawing & Sketching and Archithectural Graphics.

Business, Information Technology and Language Studies Option

On the other hand, students wishing to pursue Business, IT or Language Studies, will study Business Law, Business Management, Principles of Accounting, Principles of Economics and Principles of Marketing.

Students from both options can also join the educational visits to the industries to get exposure on the job opportunities available and plan their career path.

How will this programme benefit me?

This programme offers you a wide selection of degree programmes to pursue according to your field of interest.

Architecture Option

Students who opt for the Architecture Option will be able to pursue a degree in Architectural Studies, Landscape Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Real Estate Management and other relevant Architecture programmes in other universities, both locally or overseas.
