On the 13th of July 2017, the Faculty of Creative Multimedia and Innovative Technology (FCMIT) organised a public lecture entitled “Managing Software Projects: The Art of the War”. The event was held at the Mini Theatre, IUKL. The Public Lecture was presented by our distinguished guest speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rozilawati Razali from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
Dr. Rozilawati presented her lecture by adopting the military theories and strategies of the prominent ancient Chinese strategist, Sun Tzu. In particular, she discussed the special properties and nature of software projects that act as the battlefield of the war. Dr.Rozilawati stressed that winning a war is not a phenomenon that happens by chance. The environment needs to be understood and the soldiers ought to be prepared and well organised. Thus, this talk outlined the several strategies on how the battlefield and soldiers in software projects should be organised, synergised and capitalised towards winning the war.
