“I knew about IUKL from the Malaysia Education Exibition held in Seychelles in 2016. If I describe IUKL in one word, challenging will be the most suitable word for it.
It was difficult to adapt to my classmates and the lectures during the first semester, especially because I joined the short semester. However, things improved from the 2nd semester with the new students joining the course. I started to know my lecturers better and became more aware of the behaviour and culture of the locals.
Among my fond memories at IUKL is making close friends with the locals, and learning Bahasa Melayu although I am not that good at it. And the most challenging part was working with the classmates in doing group assignments and having to take compulsory modules that were not related to my course, such as learning Mandarin.
I am currently working as a Quantity Surveyor at the Seychelles Ports Authority, in the Project Implementation Department. I can say in general I prepare costing for the construction projects and, of course, there are other responsibilities too.
I am happy with my job, and since I was previously on internship at the same organisation, it is quite easy to adapt to the work environment and colleagues.”
