The responsibility for ensuring the safety, health and welfare of people at work as well as protecting other people from the health hazards arising from the activities in IUKL is managed by the OSHE Unit, IUKL. On 14th August 2018, our OSHE Unit, had the opportunity to cooperate and share knowledge with OSHE Unit, UTM, Skudai to conduct mock ISO 45001:2018 Audit (specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system) for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FETI), IUKL. The meeting was chaired by IUKL President, Prof. Dr. Ideris Zakaria and the audit was led by Prof. Dr. Maketab Mohamed, Director, OSHE Unit, UTM. With five representative auditors from UTM and six representative committee members from IUKL, both teams audited the areas where many people work. The purpose is to determine hazard and control the risk from their work environment and work activity. The benefits from this audit are to:
- ensure the safety and health of all staffs and students in the building;
- determine the level of exposure, conduct protective measures to prevent any occurrence, and action to be taken during such occurrence; and
- ensure all fire safety system function.
The success story of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FETI) which shows the strength of IUKL today stems from its rich history and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements by implementing risk control measures and OSH management system for continual improvement.
