The professional talk “Case Studies on the Related Basic Elements of Transportation Planning & the use of Computer Software Modelling in Transportation Planning was organized by the Civil Engineering and Construction Department, Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology (FEST).
The talk was held on Monday, 28th July 2020 via online platform. Twenty one students, mostly final year Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) students, attended the talk. The invited speaker, Ir. Mohammed Khaled Abdulwahab Al-Mughalles an alumnus of Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL), graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) degree in 2015. He later earned a Master of Highway and Transportation Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2018.
Mr. Mohammed Khaled from Taiz, Yemen and been in the profession for almost five years in Malaysia. He is registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) and Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) as a graduate member. Now he is attached to MDS Consultancy Group (Traffic Planners and Consultants) as an Associate Consultant and Traffic Engineer. During the talk, he related his experience on the transportation planning process that consists of 7 steps: 1) Situation Definition, 2) Problem Definition, 3) Search for Solutions, 4) Analysis of Performance, 5) Evaluation of Alternatives, 6) Choice of Project and 7) Specification & Construction.
Besides that, he showed the students some of the case studies and the solutions related to traffic issues in Malaysia using software modelling in transportation planning. It is hoped that the talk will be beneficial to students taking the Transportation Planning course as part of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering with honours programme.
