The online professional talk entitled “A Case Study on Traffic/Transportation Project & the Use of the Modelling/Simulation Software” was successfully organized by the Civil Engineering and Construction Department of the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology (FEST). The talk was held on Monday, 13th September 2021 via the Microsoft Team platform. Ts. Syed Khairi Syed Abbas moderated the talk, and about 45 students participated in the online talk. The invited speaker, Puan Noorfakhriah Yaakub is a senior traffic and transportation engineer with the consultancy firm Atur Trafik Sdn. Bhd.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in 2010. For the first two years of her engineering career, she worked at UTP as a tutor and research assistant. She currently has more than eight years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning and has been involved in numerous Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) studies and various Transport Master Plan studies in Malaysia. She is also a Senior Modeler for various Highways and Public Transport studies using Emme 4 software.
During the talk, she explained the traffic impact assessment and traffic study processes to the participants and gave an example of a case study project on the Putrajaya highway. Besides that, she demonstrated the use of several tools and traffic modeling software such as Dynasim, Vissim, EMME, Swepth Path Analysis, Autoturn, Weaving Analysis, and Sidra Intersection used for traffic and transportation project. The talk ended with a question-and-answer session and the speaker mentioned that it is a bonus if students have knowledge and skills in any traffic or transportation engineering software, because it will be beneficial to them if they plan to work as traffic and transportation engineers.
