Introduction
Getting a PhD degree is every academician’s dream on the path to reach excellence in teaching, research, publication and academic related activities. It is signifies a testimony of one’s authority in a particular area of expertise after many years of hard work with determination and perseverance.
A Doctorate degree is a license to teach in a real sense. Therefore, there is a need for a faculty member to be an authority, in full command of the subject right up to the boundaries of current knowledge, and be able to extend them.
However, with the current trend and acquisition of new knowledge, one is not limited to expanding to own area of strength. Working in a corporate environment requires an exposure to businesslike activities that would generate more income as this serves as a bottom line for any business to sustain. IUKL is no exception in this respect.
With this scenario as a backdrop, it is necessary to think beyond academia and change the mindset in order to be relevant and sustainable in the future.
What is the One PhD One Product Programme
The One PhD One Product Programme is an initiative to unlock the potential of all PhD holders in IUKL so that they can lead a project irrespective of scale and type, academic or non-academic. This would give them the opportunity to equip themselves with the necessary skills, expertise and tools so that eventually they can take up important positions in IUKL and lead the university to a greater height.
Having a PhD will not guarantee success in one’s profession if it is not groomed or nurtured with proper skills and knowledge beyond academia.
Aim and Objectives of the Programme
The overall aim of the programme is to develop and nurture the potential of all academic staff possessing PhD so that they can plan, manage and lead a project irrespective of size, cost and type, leading eventually to becoming leaders in their own right. Hopefully, they would take important positions in IUKL and transform it into an organization that would be able and fit to face the challenges in the future. Some of the objectives of the programme are;
- To identify the area of expertise and make plans to manage it successfully using available resources at own disposal
- To change the mindset from being too academic to entrepreneurship
- To prepare for leadership role in the management of large organizations and take up greater responsibility
- To set an example to the peers and work in a team to inculcate the sense of belonging
