A historic moment unfolded at Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur’s (IUKL) 21st Convocation Ceremony with the formal presentation of letters and certificates of appointment to the university’s newly constituted Board of Governors (BOG). This important development marks a new chapter in IUKL’s leadership and reflects the university’s growing ambition to enhance its governance, partnerships, and academic direction.

The new Board comprises accomplished individuals from diverse sectors, including government, industry, and academia. Among the appointees are YB Tuan Tan Kok Wai, Member of Parliament for Cheras, and Ir. Choo Kok Beng, President of the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World (AETDEW). Their appointments reflect IUKL’s commitment to strengthening its leadership team with experts who bring insights from policy-making, engineering, innovation, and global engagement.
The convocation ceremony, attended by graduates, faculty, family members, and invited guests, provided a meaningful platform for the official presentation of these appointments. It underscored IUKL’s forward-thinking approach to higher education leadership and its intent to be governed by individuals who represent both professional excellence and a passion for public service.

In his special address, YB Tuan Tan Kok Wai shared his reflections on the meaning of the honour, stating, “This honour is both a privilege and a responsibility. Privilege because I’m given the honour by a renowned university of remarkable academic excellence. IUKL has become a higher learning institution famous for its innovation as well as transformative education. Given this honour, it is a heavy task for me—because it wouldn’t be right to do nothing after accepting it. I must work to further promote and realise the motto of IUKL: Empowering Humanity and Transforming Knowledge.” Ir. Choo Kok Beng, as a leading voice in engineering and technology in the developing world, brings to the Board his wealth of experience in education-industry collaboration and regional development. His perspective is expected to support IUKL’s ambition to expand its impact through innovation and international cooperation.
