I enrolled into the Diploma in Geomatic Engineering programme and continued with the Bachelor in Quantity Surveying. The study experience here is fun and enjoyable. Though I enrolled into the programmes as advised by my parents, I grew to like what I was doing and I enjoyed it. Personally I am into music and I play the drums. That’s how I spent my free time during my study years.
I knew about IUKL from my father. He said IUKL is highly regarded in construction and engineering related programmes. Hence, I and my two brothers enroled to study at IUKL. IUKL charges the most affordable fees compared to other institutions and that is the reason why I chose IUKL since the three of us registered at the same time. The aim is to save cost as well. I like Maths and that is also the reason why I chose to study QS. Studying is fun and I love the environment. I love to complete my assignments and do my revision in the library. The place is nice and quite. When I knew about the sports scholarship that IUKL offers, I applied and went for the interview. Due to my invovement as a badminton player representing Putrajaya, I got a 50% scholarship on my tuition fees.
My interest is in calculation and I excelled in Math in high school. Knowing my interest, my father consulted a few of his friends and they suggested that I go into the Quantity Surveying programme. During that time, QS was something new but, I still decided to give a try and go for it. At the same time, I got a letter from IUKL (previously known as KLIUC) and I checked on the programmes offered and decided to enrol in the Quantity Surveying (QS) programme. My batch was the first to start this programme at IUKL. I love the lecturers in IUKL. They are helpful and reachable anytime. I loved the old café and apart from that, Bangi is just a short distance away and it is convenient for us to get food and daily necessities. After graduating from IUKL, I worked for a year before furthering my studies in the United Kingdom (UK). Coming back from UK, I got a job offer to work as a Service Engineer in a company located in Petaling Jaya. My job scope is to conduct training and workshops for the users who purchase the QS software from my company. It has been fun so far and I believe this work is good for me to improve my skills.
Having a brother who studied at IUKL made me eligible for the Sibling Discount. I am also a Tuition Fee Waiver recipient. This motivates me to work harder and focus on my studies to maintain my CGPA. It is not easy but it is not impossible.
I heard about IUKL on the radio and social media. The fact that the faculty and classes are close to the hostel is great. I like playing volleyball and badminton. I got to know people from other faculties and universities through these sports activities. I participated in a few tournaments as well. The highest achievement for me in volleyball is MASISWA. I also won first place in the Badminton Doubles (Woman) competition. Besides that, my internship experience was a lot of fun. It felt like professional training and I definitely learned a lot.
I loved Maths when I was in school hence, I decided to enrol in the Quantity Surveying (QS) programme. Moreover, since both my dad and my sister are from the construction background, I felt more confident to take up this programme. That was when I enrolled in the Diploma in Quantity Surveying programme at IUKL. After diploma, I decided to study for my degree in IUKL because of the credit transfer facility, the familiarity with the lecturers and friends, and the fact that IUKL offers affordable and comfortable on-campus accommodation. The lecturers were very supportive and understanding. I used to work part time during my studies. The lecturers understood my situation and provided assistance in whichever way they could. They were also knowledgeable in their field of study. Now, I work with a company that provides software for Quantity Surveyors. I joined the company as a Service Consultant. After that I was appointed as a Technical Executive and Service Engineer. My job scope is to conduct training or workshops about the software. I am also responsible for technical support and I liaise with the users should they face any technical issues with the software.
I knew about the IUKL Sports Excellent Scholarship from the internet and applied for it. I went for the interview and IUKL awarded a 50% scholarship for my past involvement at the state level. I played badminton for Negeri Selangor since I was 14 until 18 years old. Here, the lecturers are pasisonate in teaching and very patient in handling the students. They are easy to communicate with and very understanding. QS is about measuring everything about a building. It measures the thickness of the wall, what kind of materials you need to use for the building etc. I am grateful since my family members encourage me to study while working. And I am looking forward to further my studies in a different field in the future.
My learning experience at IUKL has been great. The learning facilities are well equipped and the lecturers here are very helpful. I had the chance to serve an internship, which I greatly enjoyed. I made full use of what I learned in the classroom and I took the opportunity to learn from the industry as the experience I have gained will be useful when I start working in the future. I am very proud and thankful to be one of the recipients of The Star Education Fund Scholarship and to have the opportunity to further my studies at IUKL.
