The exhibition “Copenhagen Solutions for Sustainable Cities” was a joint collaborative event organized by IUKL and the Embassy of Denmark. The event was held on 18 December 2013 at the atrium of the Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment
The President and Vice Chancellor of IUKL Prof. Dr. Roslan Zainal Abidin and the Ambassador of the Embassy of Denmark, His Excellency Nicolai Ruge, graced the exhibition. The dignitaries who attended the event included members of the Board of Governors, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Abdul Hamid, YBhg. Datuk Engr. Hong Lee Pee, and YBrs Mr. Benny Soh Seow, invitees from the Embassy of Denmark, the IUKL Management, lecturers and students of IUKL.
The Embassy of Denmark set upfive (5) pop up walls to enlighten viewers through appealing pictures, facts and figures on the ideas to make cities more livable and sustainable despite economic developments. Their practical solutions were a true example of why Copenhagen City has been named the 2014 European Green Capital.
Prof. Dr. Roslan Zainal Abidin also mentioned in his speech that, “this event will bring awareness on the necessity of perpetuating a green environment’.
In addition to the exhibits from the Embassy of Denmark, we had our own students’ productsand findings contributing to the goal of the exhibition. The event was an eye-opener as to the reasons why Denmark has been awarded the European Green Capital. Majority of its population cycle in order to reduce carbon pollution in the city. The European Green Capital is awarded annually to recognize cities that are leading the way with environmentally friendly urban living.
