ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
The world today is changing rapidly and everyone is experiencing changes in the medium used in their daily activities. The growth in the use of technology has accelerated in recent years. Students may have a deep interest in the roots of technology and how things we use today came about. You may have be inspired to be tomorrow’s creative innovator of IT, especially in the field of Multimedia.
Multimedia can be defined as a combination of text, images, animation, graphics, audio and video. It is a more enjoyable and informative experience compared to plain text. Multimedia applications may include many types of media which involve the programming of code and enhanced user interaction.
Who should take this programme?
Multimedia can be an exciting field for creative individuals who are also tech savvy. If you are interested in image and video editing, graphic design, interactive media design, 3D modelling, animation, game design, desktop publishing and print design, and everything in this line, then multimedia is the right course for you. Through this programme, you will learn in depth about how to come up with the things you use and see every day.
What should I expect?
You will learn in detail about the multimedia elements (text, image, video, audio and animation) and how to manipulate them into making something new and interesting.
You will be equipped with strong knowledge in the authoring process and creative media production, through a combination of individual and practical group projects and lecture materials.
You will also be exposed to a broad range of subjects that reflect established and emerging industry best practice. It aims to produce graduates who are equipped to analyse and resolve multimedia design and production.
An important feature of this programme is practical problem solving in multi-disciplinary teams using current and emerging technologies. Therefore, you will learn to transform 2D graphics into 3D and incorporate them into games, mobile application and computer programmes.
What will I learn?
In the first year, usually the students will learn the basics of computing and programming. Gradually, in the following semesters, students will be exposed into more specialised multimedia subjects such as Multimedia Authoring, Digital Audio and Video, Multimedia Programming, Digital Imaging, Computer Animation etc.
Student will learn and practice to use multimedia authoring tools such as Adobe applications (Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) to edit various media accordingly to create multimedia presentation, simple games, information kiosks, websites, animation, short films and many other interactive applications.

As Multimedia becomes increasingly demanding to businesses, both from the marketing and operational standpoints, opportunities in this field continue to grow.
What are the career prospects?
Upon graduation, students can begin their successful career in various industries such as multimedia design and development, graphic design, web design, advertisement, entertainment production etc. Being in this field and working in this area allow graduates to balance their creative side with their skills in technology. Hand drawings and computer generated images are both used in this line of work.

How much will I make?
The average salary for an Animator/ Multimedia Designer is RM 30,000 per year. But, of course, your salary will also depend on the company that you work for.
