ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME

Electro-mechanical technology is an important field that has great potential in the industry today.

Also known as mechatronic engineering, this programme combines mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer technology, telecommunications, robotics and control to deliver a unified system.

This area has become the backbone of industries, especially in the manufacturing industry since microprocessors and microcontrollers are used in industrial control.

Is this programme for me?

  • Are you more of a hands-on person?
  • Do you prefer to learn by doing things yourself and pick-up the skills as you go along?
  • Have you ever modified or redesigned any electrical items?
  • Ever wondered how machinery items function?

If your answer is “yes”, this programme may be suitable for you.

You will be learning in depth about the whole process of putting together an equipment, how to programme it to work and such.

Why should I take this programme at IUKL?

The class size here is smaller compared to other institutions. This is an advantage as you would get more attention and guidance from lecturers, plus you will be able to focus and understand better.

What will I learn?

Students will be exposed to a mix of both mechanical and electrical related subjects including electric circuits, analog and digital electronic circuits, electrical machines, instrumentation, microcontrollers, Programmable Logic Controllers, industrial automation, pneumatics, hydraulics and process controls.

This programme focuses more on technical or hands-on skills which is favoured by the industry. You will undergo 6 months practical training in the final semester.

What should I expect?

This programme is designed to produce skilled workforce in this growing area. It encompasses a robust theoretical and practical training to prepare students to face the world of work.

You will be exposed to a whole range of hands-on learning where you will be operating machines and working in labs.

What will I do & who will employ me?

This industry may involve working in all kinds of fields, especially in the manufacturing sector. The job prospects can be in the medical field, food and beverage, workshops, airports, factories and many more.

Graduates will be employed as:

  • Mechanical Engineers
  • Design & Development Engineers
  • Process / Manufacturing Engineers
  • Production Engineers
  • Equipment / Facilities Engineers
  • Service / Technical Support / Field Application Engineers
  • Quality Assurance Engineers
  • Test Engineers
  • Sales Engineers

How much will I make?

The average salary for fresh graduates is around MYR2000 to MYR2700.

Is this programme accredited?

Yes, this programme is accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Did you know?

  • IUKL is one of the few institutions that offers this programme.
  • Some equipment around us is somehow related to electro-mechanical technology, whether we encounter them daily or watch it on television. Some simple examples are traffic lights, automatic car wash, conveyor belts at the airport or at sushi restaurants, robotic arms, and a lot of other equipment.

Additional info

  • The courses offered under this programme are mainly assessed on hands-on lab work, reports and assignments which allow students to cultivate the working environment of a technologist or engineer, rather than just having the conventional student classroom experience.
