At first, I had problems communicating with others in my class. It is hard for me to initiate a conversation since I am a timid person. Fortunately, the study environment here does not allow me to be “that” kind of person. It has changed me to be confident to speak to others. The student life in IUKL is wonderful. I get cross-cultural experience and friends from different races. They are ever willing to help me when I am in need.
I really enjoy to study at IUKL, because of the syllabus outline for my programme. All the subjects that I learn during my study give me an insight and new knowledge to build my professional career. In addition IUKL have a big advantage, among others, that here you can find friends from any corner of the world. With new friends you open new view, new experience, new knowledge. During my study in IUKL I found new friends for all my life. I am looking forward to complete my studies and build my career based on knowledge that I receive in IUKL.
IUKL is a place where I learnt a lot and where I acquired the knowledge I now have. The best bit about IUKL is definitely the people that I got to meet and befriend. Those people are the reason behind my love for IUKL. With lots of active clubs and societies, I got my own share of experience in some of them such as the Outreach Club, English Language Society and Taekwondo Club. I was also part of the Student Representative Council. I participated in two squash competitions and won two bronze medals and I also took part in basketball competitions and won one bronze medal. I studied Civil Engineering, and during the course of my study, I learnt mostly about construction matters, especially in terms of designing.
I was the first among my four siblings to study at IUKL. I got to know about IUKL from my father, an engineer and he got to know about IUKL as it is famous for Engineering programmes. For me, what’s important is that the Engineering programmes are accredited worldwide. I had the opportunity to do my 3 months internship here with IKRAM at the Geotech Lab, and it was a great experience. Personally, I am into sports and I am actively involved in rugby. My team won a few rugby competitions. These are the best memories during my study years that I will cherish and remember when I graduate.
When it comes to studying Civil Engineering in Malaysia, it will always be IUKL for the Sudanese. Moreover, the Sudanese community in IUKL is quite huge and that is another advantage. My first year at IUKL was the best for me. It is the year when I truly know learnt myself. I gained confidence and learned how to be a learder and also how to build relationships with other people. This is where I built my connection and it comes handy when I am in the SRC committee. Studying is fun and interesting. And the syllabus for civil engineering is great. We not only learn about engineering stuff, but also other subjects such as C++ which is normally taken by IT students.
