In simple words, chemical engineering is a process of changing raw materials into products we use daily such as clothes, food, drinks, drugs, fertilizers, etc.
Chemical engineering involves applying chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics to either develop or create new products/materials, or improve existing processes.
This is a broad based engineering discipline as it is concerned with transforming one thing into another or creating useful materials that can help improve the society. This explains the high demand for chemical engineers across a variety of industries and professions.
Heads up! This is a very challenging programme but worth it!
It involves a lot of physics and maths plus chemistry and biology. If these are amongst your strong favourite subjects, this programme would suit you and you are likely to succeed.
This programme is varied and interesting. You will acquire a broad range of useful skills when you graduate.
IUKL is one of the private institutions in the country that has strong linkages to society and the engineering industry, enabling students to grow personally and professionally. This programme is conducted in collaboration with University Malaysia Pahang which is one of the nation’s leading universities.
Students are exposed to the principle of design processes and development of new product from ra materials. This programmes stresses on the fundamentals of pure and applied mathematics, computing and CAD followed by more advanced courses and laboratory classes such as Reaction Engineering, Process Control and Process Design, Chemical Reaction. The wider context of chemical engineering includes economics as well as ethical and environmental issues.
A chemical engineer is also known as a universal engineer. You will be one of those responsible for making changes to enhance the society’s everyday life through products and materials. You will be solving major challenges in energy, human health, manufacturing and sustainability.
Chemical engineers will work on finding ways to convert raw materials and intermediate chemicals into more useful forms. You will be involved in developing processes and products that are energy efficient, environmental friendly and profitable. Many products are practically improved by chemical engineers in some way.

There are a wide range of industries and sectors that need chemical engineers. This includes pharmaceutical, petrochemical, microelectronics, biomedical, information technology and energy sectors.
You may be involved in improving existing processes and creating new methods for altering materials. Plus, you may be handling chemicals and plant equipment.
There are other sectors too which need the skills of a chemical engineer including quality assurance, manufacturing and consultancy.
The average salary for a fresh graduate in this field is roughly RM 40,700.00 per annum. But of course, your salary will also depend on the company that you work for. The more experienced you are, the higher your salary will be.
