On 4 February 2020, the Foundation in Arts and Foundation in Science students under the Centre for Foundation and General Studies (CFGS) participated in the Exploring English Language event which was organised by Ms Zeena, Head of the Intensive English Programme (EIP) to expose the students to various English language activities. The students were firstly introduced to the four main skills of English language; Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing including Grammar and Vocabulary at 9.00am when the event began.
The students were later given the opportunity to participate in various activities which incorporated the usage of the four main English language skills introduced earlier including vocabulary and grammar. The activities included storytelling, word of mouth, tongue twisters, word formation, sentence construction, filling in the gaps, and identification of parts of speech. These activities which were prepared by Ms Zeena require students’ participation individually, in pairs and in groups.
All students were guided on the ways to perform in each of the activities and immediate feedback was given by Ms Zeena. All the students participated actively in the activities and gained additional knowledge through this event. Even though some of these activities seemed new and challenging to the majority of the students, an outstanding performance was noticed in all activities.
This was because the students were cooperative, highly motivated to learning English language, curious about everything introduced to them, creative, able to think critically to cope with the challenges faced and did not give up easily. The event was an amazing educational experience. At 11.00am, the event ended with a thank you speech and compliments by Ms Zeena to all students for the job well done!
