This programme is embedded with a Cisco Certified Network Associate, CCNA recognition. The CCNA is recognized in the industry as a technical professional working with traditional Cisco-based networks that predominantly include LAN and WAN routers and LAN switches.

OVERVIEW

Network technology is a medium for connecting people. The specialists known as network technicians or network engineers are the ones responsible for the configuration, installation and troubleshooting. Through networking, end-users are able to share information, transmit files, messages and other data through email using internet connections and other channels.

Is this programme for me?

If you have the potential to solve network problems, say if you encounter problems with your computer at home and you are keen on fixing it, you might be suitable for this field. This is because you have the interest to know the root of the problem and how it can be fixed.

As we live in the technology era and applications are widely used, a deep interest in knowing in depth about applications is another reason for you to join this field.

What will I learn?

This programme equips students with the fundamental concepts and knowledge of networking and basic skills of mobile technology. These skills would familiarise students with the development and deployment techniques required for mobile devices and an understanding of the mobile communication infrastructure. It also explores fundamental networking concepts such as internetworking technologies, network security, network programming and wireless and mobile security.

What will I do?

In general, a Network Engineer is responsible for implementing, supporting and developing networks within an organization or between organizations.

You will be the person to ensure the availability of the network infrastructures in order to provide maximum performance for users.

Problems will arise and you will need to fix the problem in the most minimum duration. You will also need to protect network security from hackers or unauthorized users.

Who will employ me?

All companies now have an IT department in which they will need you to work internally for the organization. Besides that, you can also be part of the outsourced companies who will be taking care of different clients.

Network Engineers are highly sought by:

  • Information Technology Firms
  • Computer/Software/Hardware Firms
  • Telecommunication Firms
  • Banks/ Financial Services
  • MSC Status Companies

How much will I make?

The average salary for a diploma holder in this field is RM 24,000 per year. But of course, your salary will also depend on the company that you work for.

Is there any professional recognition for this programme?

Yes. This programme is embedded with a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) recognition. The CCNA is recognized in the industry as a technical professional working with traditional Cisco-based networks that predominantly include LAN and WAN routers and LAN switches.

CCNA is a category of technical certifications offered by Cisco for early-career networking professionals.

How does the professional recognition for this programme benefit me?

A Network Engineer will need formal knowledge to configure the routers and switches as they need to establish the network environment in a company. With the CCNA Certification, one is tested and qualified to handle the equipment. This is the value of the certification. Having the certification will consider you a professional and the scale of the salary earned will be much more than the graduates without certification.
